Haukur Grondal was born in Reykjavik in 1975. Started his music education at an early age. Main instruments are saxophones, clarinets and flutes. Mostly focusing his playing on jazz and Balkan folklore music. He is also active as an arranger and composer.

Main projects are Byzantine Silhouette, Iceland's New Liberation Orchestra, Icelandic Folk Ensemble and Reykjavik Swing Syndicate. He also plays in the Reykjavik Big Band and performs as a freelance musician in various projects in Iceland.

Haukur is especially interested in Balkan folk music and has studied in Bulgaria, Macedonia and Turkey with local folk musicians.
